Other Aspects of Oculoplastic Surgery

Repair of orbital bones requires ever-changing sophisticated techniques as the technology evolves including the use of micro-plating systems for fixation of the latest orbital implants and the use of incisions that do not require a skin incision. These techniques promote faster healing and returning to a normal function quicker. Many athletes from high school, the University of Washington, to the professional level (including the NFL, NBA and professional boxing) operated on by Dr. Carey returned to action in just two to three weeks.


	ORBITAL FRACTURES of the bone surrounding the eye may be caused by trauma to the orbit. Such fractures may result in deformities of the face, poor movement of the eye and cause the eye to sink back into the orbit. Precise evaluation and repair of orbital fractures are necessary to insure the best possible protection and function of the eye.

	ORBITAL TUMORS may affect the structures within the orbit. As these tumors slowly enlarge, the eye bulges forward and its movement may be limited. Management of these tumors usually requires a sophisticated diagnostic evaluation and surgical exploration. Fortunately, most orbital tumors are not malignant and can be treated surgically.
