He has given presentations at national and international medical meetings. He receives consultation requests for oculoplastic problems from all over the Pacific Northwest and Canada. This includes the medical and surgical management of orbital and eyelid tumors. Orbital tumors are generally managed in the operating room at Swedish or Northwest Hospitals whereas eyelid tumors can be treated at Dr. Carey's office eye plastic surgery suite. Dr. Carey is a recognized world leader in orbital fracture repair. Repair of orbital bones requires ever-changing sophisticated techniques as the technology evolves including the use of micro-plating systems for fixation of the latest orbital implants and the use of incisions that do not require a skin incision. These techniques promote faster healing and returning to a normal function quicker. Many athletes from high school, the University of Washington, to the professional level (including the NFL, NBA and professional boxing) operated on by Dr. Carey returned to action in just two to three weeks.
Dr. Carey is a leading expert on cosmetic surgery of the eyelid. If your situation is cosmetic in nature he offers a free consultation with him to discuss your eyelids and how surgery can improve and in some cases restore a more youthful appearance. Dr. Carey understands the idea is to afford a natural position of the eyelids not a stretched or plastic appearance. Dr. Carey's skill and success is attributed to his extensive training in both ophthalmology and plastic surgery. He has thousands of satisfied patients in the Pacific Northwest that have benefited from his surgery. These patients range from teenagers (who suffer from droopy or baggy eyelids since birth) to patients in their 90's. Dr. Carey's motto is " if you notice droopy upper eyelids or bags under your lower lids, why not come in and talk with me about it, to see if we can help you enhance your appearance or in many cases improve your vision." Other aspects of oculoplastic surgery include treatment of eyelid conditions such as entropion (eyelid turning inward), ectropion (eyelid turning outward), trichiasis (eye lashes scratching in the eye), and tumors involving other areas of the face such as the cheek and lip region. Dr. Carey treats people who have lost vision in their eyes due to trauma or disease, both in the removal and the reconstruction of the anophthalmic socket. See Enucleation/Evisceration. He works closely with Mr. Greg Sankey, a licensed ocularist (www.artificialeye.com) and Erickson Laboratories (www.ericksoneyes.com) in the custom fitting of a true-to-life glass eye. Most of these procedures are covered by insurance. Check with your carrier to confirm this. |
